Gilroy Ripple

Plywood, steel, plastic beads, fake plant

55 x 54 x 11”

Gilroy and Ripple were the cross streets of my first studio in Los Angeles. The studio was right along the LA River, in a little neighborhood known as Frogtown. Living by the river gave me a very particular first impression of Los Angeles--the bands of homeless folks that lived on its cement banks, the parrots and cranes living on little green islands that dotted the middle of the river, the tagging that frequently changed all along the water, the random bits of debris that floated by in a calm and lazy way. This piece takes some of those elements and pulls them together in one form.
